Pakatan Rakyat Morphing Into Pakatan Riot

By Syed Akbar Ali

I was in Ipoh last nite, visiting the State I was born in and had a really good dinner at the delightful Restaurant Laksamana Cheng Ho in Greentown (in a Bungalow towards the end of the road after Ipoh Parade).

The restaurant is owned and run by Executive Chef Ahmad Khusaini Mohamed Hashim (Tel : 05 255 5840). The two are not related but Ahmad is married to a Chinese girl and cooks up a storm of Chinese dishes at his restaurant. Do check him out if you have the chance.

After everyone was stuffed, Ahmad brought in a tray full of excellent, golden yellow, durian kunyit which was “pahit” to perfection. A bunch of middle aged guys forgot about their uric acid, gout and diabetes and just let it rip.

The dinner conversation included the seeming break up of the Pakatan Rakyat. I recall saying this just over a week ago in this Blog. The Pakatan Rakyat never was and never will be. It is simply non existent. Events are proving that to be just the case.

There is a theory (also put forward by eminent Social Scientist Prof Shamsul Amri of ATMA in UKM) that if the Pakatan Rakyat registered themselves as a party, just like the Barisan Nasional, complete with a common logo like the ‘dacing’, then the Barisan Nasional will become history.

But last nite someone brought up a good point. PAS will never give up its ‘bulan’. PAS has spent half a decade building up its brand name as a party for the simple folks. And there are many simple folks who do support PAS. Surely the party does not want to jeopardize this support base by suddenly agreeing to a new ‘secular’ logo minus their ‘bulan’ just so that they can team up with the godless DAP and the ‘unnatural’ proclivities of the PKR.

And I don’t see the DAP adopting even a half moon in any logo to represent the Pakatan. That is just not going to happen either. So it will be almost impossible for there to be a political party called Pakatan Rakyat, similar to the Barisan Nasional.

What we are seeing is the birth of a Pakatan Riot complete with black t-shirts, cows in the Chief Minister’s driveway and bandanas in Parliament.

It is true that among the PKR run states, Selangor is very much a PKR operation. Perak under Pakatan was basically a DAP show with Nizar taking instructions from Ngeh and Nga. Kedah under PAS is another Talibanistan in the making. The demolition of the 30 year old abattoir is just one symptom. Last year the PAS MB Azizan said housing developers in Kedah must reserve 50% of all new houses for Malays. I am quite sute that has killed housing development almost completely in Kedah. Penang is a DAP outpost. It will never acquiesce to PAS.

And now Hadi says that he disagrees with Najib’s decision to do away with the 30% bumi equity. His partner the DAP will agree with Najib’s decision. Brader Anwar has said he is against the NEP. So on this issue we see PAS in disagreement with PKR and DAP. But Anwar is against English as a medium for Science and Mathematics. PAS agrees. But what about DAP?

And over in the Hindraf cinema, the action packed fight scenes are continuing.

They have perhaps given up on Queen Elizabeth. She suffers gas problems anyway. So the folks in Kampung Buah Pala in Penang have threatened to send a letter to Unesco to revoke George Town’s World Heritage Site status should the state fail to stop their village from being demolished.

Kampung Buah Pala Residents Association chairman M. Sugumaran has warned that villagers would bring their cows to Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s office if he refuses to meet them to discuss their plight.

May I suggest Guan Eng lay out some grass and other cow snacks at the parking lot of Komtar, just in case the cows do turn up. There is good ‘teh susu lembu’ in Penang, maybe Guan Eng’s staff can now get their own fresh milk too.

Dddeyyy ! Lembu semua tak boleh masuk pejabat

Ketua Menteri lah!

One Hindraf leader, V. Ganabatirao, says the movement has no leader and nobody could claim to be the voice of the Indians. Referring to Hindraf chairman P. Waythamoorthy he said no one had elected Waytha as the chairman with power to sack and appoint people as coordinators.

"Who is he to do so? Suddenly, he claims to be the chairman and voice of Hindraf." The movement is now split with several people trying to take the limelight and become the hero. One group of Hindraf leaders and supporters, for instance, has formed the Makkal Sakti Party.

And over in the Courts yesterday, there was a delay in hearing Brader Anwar’s application pertaining to his sodomy case because the Opposition leader was feeling unwell. Anwar left the court for the Pantai Hospital to seek medical consultation

I recall Anwar once saying that he was being poisoned with arsenic in jail. It was claimed that his life was in imminent danger. Later it turned out that Anwar played badminton quite well in the prison yard. He seemed to have survived the arsenic poisoning.

Then Anwar became paralysed from “life threatening back pains” (according to his wife) and even had to be pushed in a wheel chair to attend his mother’s funeral. Again his life was in imminent danger. You can see an interesting video of his wheelchair days here.

He demanded urgent treatment by a foreign doctor from Holland or someplace. He said that he would have to go overseas for major back surgery without which his life may be in danger. Then after he was released from jail, Anwar realized he needed to quickly get back into shape so that he could go about his political campaigns.

He visited the foreign doctor in Holland or some place where he made a miraculous recovery from his life threatening back pain. In fact it was just like a scene from one of those “Born Again” movies. It was a case of ‘Rise and walk. You are now healed’. Anwar just got up miraculously and walked like a normal person. No surgery was ever performed for his life threatening back pains.

Oh well. As the stomach churns.

Brudder Anwar's a good actor. He should stop playing politics and concentrate on being a professional actor. He does all the dramatic scenes very naturally and would be a producer's dream talent.

He can instantly transform into a disabled character, a hunted suspect, a threatened culprit, a rogue, a paliamentarian, a split personality, a lover boy, and any other difficult characters that could shame even top Tamil movie personalities.

Now, he is pretending to be sick again and will probably need to seek specialist treatment overseas as his court case gets nearer.

He would even probably fall sick in court and sue the authorities for dragging him there.

Amazing Bro. Don't worry, your ardent supporters will be 'behind' you, no matter what.

As for the language issue? Hmmm, what about the silly Bahasa Baku? What ever happened to the stupid Bahasa Baku to replace Bahasa Malaysia? Surely DAP will agree, won't they?

A GOOD MAN DOES NOTHING.

Bro, I dislike Anwar for his acting too. However, I have to provide some corrections to your article.

1. Anwar went to Munich for surgery, and it was the same place he kept asking to go to for treatment on his back pain.

2. Anwar did go through a surgery in Munich. This was reported in the media and confirmed by Anwar himself in an interview with Newsweek.

If the Opposition wins the election someday, I don't care who becomes the Prime Minister. Anyone but ANWAR !

From Turkish runaway to claims that he has no money even to fund his campaign in Permatang Pauh and various other drama.

I am sick and tired of him and his stories.

His hastily assembled Pakatan Rakyat are sending out various messages on PPSMI, religion, governance and financial policies.

After that, he will stand up and tell people - NO PROBLEMS IN PAKATAN.

And Saifuddin Nasution will continue as usual to claim that these are small problems.

Everyone in Pakatan will then say these are conspiracies by Barisan Nasional and the media played up these issues.

We even have Tian Chua telling a journalist - YOU ASK ME AGAIN I SMASH YOUR HEAD - when asked a question about Elizabeth Wong.

Each time a problem occurs in Pakatan Rakyat, I can tell you beforehand what they will say. They are nothing but parrots who recite the same script over and over again.

Anwar has told so many lies,he has no credibility.

Karpal even said that Anwar has caused enough problems for the country.

On a slight digression.

Incumbency is a powerful tool.

PM Najib's recent announcement of the retraction of 30% bumi allocation in IPOs and various other tools in what seems like a dismantling of some provisions of the NEP in the investment arena was not quite well received by some. But yet, Mainstream Media has not been too vocal.

Contrast this to a reaction if say, Brader Anwar or Zaid were to propose this. (Mind you, just proposing and not implementing like Najib).

They would be labelled traitors to the Malays ... and that would be a mild one.

Point is : same message delivered by different messenger will elicit different response.

We all suffer from some bias, I suppose and look for hidden agendas.

no matter how things turn out for pr, to each of them, the 'marriage' was a great deal:

a. pkr bungkus selangor;
b. dap bungkus pulau pinang, perak;
c. pas bungkus kedah (kelantan not considered since it is their regular dessert).

now may be their time to bungkus more from their 'couples' in case there will be a 'divorce'.

note: dap appears to be the winner, they got 2 bungkusan, while pkr and pas each got themselves only 1, although most daya tarikan is from both of them.
