Barack Obama Wins Nobel Peace Prize

The U.S. president Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize "for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples," the Nobel Foundation said in Sweden on Friday.

OSLO (AP) -- President Barack Obama on Friday won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples," the Norwegian Nobel Committee said.

"Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future," the committee said. "His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population."

Obama's name had been mentioned in speculation before the award but many Nobel watchers believed it was too early to award the president.

The committee said it attached special importance to Obama's vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons.

"Obama has as president created a new climate in international politics. Multilateral diplomacy has regained a central position, with emphasis on the role that the United Nations and other international institutions can play."

Comment : Does this mean Obama will pull the troops out of Afghanistan and Iraq and stop shedding the blood of the people who live in these countries?

Barack is just one of the many images before GOD.Mankind have turn to IDOL worship as peace can only be provided by TRUTH and NOTHING else.Only the holy kithab holds the way to truth, the one single Truth no one can gain credit as it was given freely to living being by TUHAN.

While millions worldwide will rejoice at this award to an outstanding personality I do not feel we should harbour too much hope about US troop withdrawals or even a meaningful change in US Foreign Policy. US Presidents have not had too much say in the formulation of that policy and it is doubtful if Obama's charismatic tenure will change that.

This has got to be one of the biggest jokes this year.

Entries for this year's prize closed on 1 Feb 2009. Obama was inaugrated on 20 Jan 2009.

How does the Nobel Prize Committee decide that Obama has done so much for world peace in 11 days ?

Perhaps it is true that in this day and age, name brand is more powerful than substance.

No doubt he is trying (as most of the leaders of the world try to) but I don't think he has got results yet. I guess the Nobel Committee believes in the rhetoric rather than results when awarding this.

I suspect that Obama himself may be embarassed by this. Not his doing that he is nominated and awarded.

Chris Brown, there is no hatred being spread whatsoever. Can you please point out the where Syed Akbar Ali was spreading hatred?

All he did in this post was state some facts, quote some people/articles and ask if Obama will pull the troops out of Afghanistan and Iraq and stop shedding the blood of the people who live in these countries.

PS: Syed is a Malaysian, just like me. We are not Christians and we do not throw tea parties. Also, after reading your vulgar comment nobody cares what you are proud of.
