I received the following from a journalist friend of mine Samantha. Quite obviously it is writtten by interests representing our own plantation industry. Of course I can support their views when it comes to the hypocrisy of the West.
I have always held that far too many of the bleeding heart Western NGOs are nothing but fronts for Western commercial interests. I recall the famous Rio Conference of 1992 which was also called The Earth Summit.
That was where I believe President Bill Clinton met a man called Mahathir Mohammad in the world arena and lost. The Earth Summit in Rio was designed by the US, Britain and their cohorts to force the Third World to pay for the ecological and environmental sins of the developed Western countries. It was also a precursor to curb indigenous manufacturing development in Third World countries. For example they did not want 'metal recycling industries' to be set up in the Third World because we "did not have the technology". It was a crude and blatant attempt to preserve their metal recycling industry at that time.
Dr Mahathir derailed the more nefarious agendas of the US, UK and the West by hosting a pre-Rio summit here in Kuala Lumpur. Dr Mahathir invited many of the Heads of State of the South countries and got everyone to agree on a common platform to be tabled at Rio. It was quite succesful.
The US suffered significant embarrasment when Dr Mahathir went to Rio and called for a "Re-greening of the Earth". Dr Mahathir suggested that all countries of the world commit themselves to increasing the forest cover in their countries by just 2%. The US was shocked. Which part of the US would they have to replant with trees?
The Secretary General of the Rio Conference in 1992 was a fellow called Maurice F Strong from Canada.
Maurice Strong was one of the most rapacious miners and oil explorers in Canada. His companies dug up vast areas of the Earth in Canada, trawling for its riches. Strong was an oilman, a miner and industrialist. Two of his companies Molten Metals Technology Inc and Cordex Petroleum went bankrupt - but most of his other exploitation businesses made millions.
This was the Secretary General of the Earth Summit in 1992 to save the Earth.
Anyway here is the story from the planters:

Those who oppose PALM OIL (soybean, rapeseed and sunflower farmers) have vested interests. They cannot grow oil palm in their countries because oil palms can only grow in the tropical belt around the globe.
They can only grow soybean, sunflower, rapeseed in temperate countries. They try all means to sabotage PALM OIL but they forget the land that grow soybean, sunflower, rapeseed in their countries were once FOREST, too.

If an addition had to be made to the 7 deadly sins afflicting humanity, hypocrisy would be a hands-down candidate.
Not only did the western folk kill off almost all the native fauna (though praiseworthy efforts are being made by them to repopulate many species)they also had to remove the natives from their lands.
Especially guilty were the western taliban-type missionaries. I think it was Tutu who said the immortal words that "When the missionaries came to Africa they had the Bible and we had the land. They said, 'Let us pray.' We closed our eyes. When we opened our eyes we had the bible and they had the land."
It was interesting reading, that treatise by our planters but could do with some major editing. Maybe PR is not their strong point. Lingering too long in the woods has its drawbacks, I guess.
Someone should tell them that you don't "develop" jungles. Also don't lah use words like "flee"; sounds like they were bombarded by Bush's shock-and-awe WMDs. Etc, etc.
Also, just because the orang putihs have shown their mean streaks, doesn't mean others are justified in behaving similarly. Argue lah on a higher plane, so at least the higher moral ground is achieved.
Like the brilliant move by Mahathir to do some groundwork before going into the lion's den in Rio. I hope he got enough support from his third world brothers. If everyone thinks like me (and a few other folk who come by here) when it comes to "religion", then I think there will be no problems.
I am a Muslim, I believe in Allah, His Messenger and the Quran. Hence I also believe that religion is the domain of dementia, the demented and Village Idiots. I dont know how else to say this.
But vast numbers of people think otherwise.

But to answer your question plainly, no its not an issue. When I asked my Lebanese Christian friends in arabic 'Keifak el yawm' (How are you today?) they would say 'Alhamdulillah. They also say Insha Allah, Masha Allah, Subhanallaah etc. Its their language. But they are Christians.
But over here we have a slightly different situation. Its called race, language, religion. The polarisation is along those lines. If you step across the line, it becomes an issue.
What if some aleck decides to build his religious building to look like a church - with cross and everything? The resultant confusion would make others angry too. There are already mosques being planned which look like pagodas.
So from a 'preserving the peace' point of view my advice to the Christian brothers is drop the 'Allah'. Is it really that big a deal? You can still preach about Jesus' love minus the 'Allah' word.
If you want to force the issue under the pretext of human rights, freedom of religion etc that is your choice. But I have already told you so.
Allah is not even a Malay word. To preach to Indonesians, Sabahans, Sarawakians wouldnt it be better to use Tuhan. Or some other appropriate word in the Dayak, Kadazan, Murut etc native languages.
The Dayaks, Kadazans, Dusuns etc must have words in their language to describe God. I would assume that it would be best to call God in your own mother tongue. Dont you agree?
I am trying to figure out the logic of asking the Dayaks, Dusuns Kadazans, Kelabits, Bidayuhs etc to call God in the Arabic language : Allah. And I think this is the only Arabic word involved. How come?
Extending the argument, shouldnt there also be other Biblical Arabic words like Qiyamah (Day of Judgement), Aakhirati (Hereafter), Aqeedah (faith) taught to the Dayaks, Kadazans and Dusuns? My Christian Lebanese friends know all these other words from their Arabic language Bibles. Dont our Dayak friends deserve to learn these other Biblical Arabic words too, besides just Allah?
But I believe our Dayak friends in Sarawak and Sabah may not be comfortable with too much Arabisation. But they are being asked to make do with 'Allah'.
The Quran says that Allah sent Messengers to every people. Imagine if the Quran had been revealed in Japan to a Japanese prophet? Would the Dayaks, Dusuns and Indons be struggling with something like 'Arrah' in Japanese? (This is a pun ok)
Hence the understandable fear among the Malays / Muslims is that the term 'Allah' is being used as bait to hook those who are already familiar with its usage. These are obviously the Muslims in the land and not God's Beautiful Children who inhabit the interiors of Kalimantan, Sabah and Sarawak.
The Sikhs in Malaysia will not have any problems with their Book because the Sikhs either do not or cannot spread their faith to others. I doubt if there has ever been any conversion of a non-Punjabi person into the Sikh faith here in Malaysia. (I am willing to be corrected here).
So my view here is there is really no need for anyone to ratle any sabres about the Sikh Book.

Whalers benefited from this by driving and herding them together into tight groups. The whales follow their food source in the waters consisting mostly of whiting fish, squid, and mackerel.
According to a 9/14/2003 BBC News story, residents of the Faroe have been hunting for pilot whales for centuries, giving them valuable food stocks for the winter. The island has had a Norse settlement since the Viking age (800-900 AD.)
The shore-based hunters in the Faroe Islands of Denmark continue this practice and it is a community effort for storing whale meat and products for the winter. Pilot whale meat and blubber is considered by islanders to be an important part of their staple diet. The whale meat is never sold, instead it is divided evenly to everyone who wants it. What ever is left over is donated to the local hospital and senior citizens on the island. There is very little of the whale that is actually wasted. The islanders use the blubber for processing oil, the skin for ropes and lines, stomachs for floats, and the esophagus for shoes. Pilot whales register high in mercury so pregnant mothers are warned against partaking in the meat.
As for a ceremony of rite of passage, other than the traditional confirmation or getting married we found no evidence of a required whale hunt for the young men on this island. The communal processing is open to anyone on the island who regardless of age or gender.
A whaling information site posted the actual description of the process of hunting, tools used and the legal regulations in Faroa.
How they cull the whales is deplorable given present day techniques available.
I agree with Tuan Syed that there is no need for anyone to rattle sabres with the Sikh Book.
This then asked the question, why is did the Home Ministry bring up this issue of the word in the Herald ? The word had been in use in Malay bibles for centuries and in the Herald for decades.
As Syed indicated, it is the fear that some will get "hooked" but over the 52 years of Merdeka, how many people have converted from Islam to Christianity or any other religion ? Officially, it is NONE. Unofficially, perhaps a few but I reckon they are no longer in this country.
There are probably more people converting to Islam than the other way around.
So, I am really at a loss to understand what the "fear" is especially when the Herald has a circulation of only 14,000 and that too is restricted to non-Muslims.
But echoing Syed, the rest of the world may be receptive to the use of the word ... but not in Malaysia. This unique branding however, is producing a negative perception not just in Malaysia but internationally.

Only about 15% of Punjabis are Sikhs, the majority being Muslim. There are also Punjabi Hindus and Christians.

I read that Sahib Guru Nanak in those days, went in search of the Truth and had travelled to Mecca.Yes Mecca!! Correct me if I am wrong here but research before you jump on me.Besides the thousands of prophets mentioned in Islam, there were also beautiful souls who were not Muslims per se but who gave up worldly desires and searched for their Creator and the truth.I suppose Sahib Guru Nanak was one of them.
I also read that Prophet Mohammad has been mentioned in the Granth Sahib, the Holy book of the Sikhs. But over time, the original has been corrected as were the Bible, the Torah and other Holy books except the Quran.
I do not know whether the Sikhs pray to Sahib Guru Nanak or to an Almighty which we Muslims call Allah.But I do see Sahib Guru Nanak's pictures with a halo. I do not know whether the Sikhs pray to the Guru.

That is not the right advice. Tell them straight to their face that they cannot use Allah for their God. When a Christian says Allah, it is not the being with no face, figure or form. If a Christian says Allah, the Christian means Jesus Christ and his mind will flash the face of the usual Jesus Christ with his sad long face, with kind and yet sad eyes and no smile on his face, with long flowing hair and a long beard.
(If that is really my prophet Isa (peace be upon him), my heart goes out to that Prophet of mine. There is only pain written all over his holy face. My heart goes out to him. May Allah bestow peace upon him.)

very interesting article. Indeed the west are wrong for thinking that oil plam plantations are killing the orang utans, because i am certain that we have responsible authorities and NGOs in Malaysia looking after the orang utans, which i believe is an endangered species.
However, i wish to also point out, that oil plam plantation, as beneficial as it is for the socio-economic development of the society and the nation, has also been accused of deforestating our natural forest leading to increased GHG emissions. This is actually true if we indeed convert tropical forests into oil palm plantations, because a forest has a much higher carbon stock content compared to oil palm plantations. Therefore such conversions would release the carbon from the forest tothe atmosphere in the form of CO2, which can be tonnes of CO2 per hectare. At the same time, fellow Malaysians go around the world claiming that palm oil is sustainable. Sustainability is not just about socio-economic sustainability, but it also has to encompass environmental sustainability...sustainability in general has to cover all three aspects of it. Because of our claims on sustainable palm oil, we are being heavily challenged and criticised globally.
I mentioned earlier that conversion of forest is unavoidable if we aspire to develop that area to improve socio-economic well-being and hence lifting the society of poverty. And indeed we should be doing that if we think that it is absolutely critical to do so. But dont go around claiming that it is sustainable...environmentally friendly and so-on...
As for the fellow westerns, yes they have a unrealistic standard which benefits no one else but themselves. Hypocrisy in its best form i must say. Climate change policies must also be based on climate justice...

Bro, I think its like this. The Bible did come down about 600 years before the Quran - so they say. There were many Arab speaking Christians around way before the Quran and Islam came to be.
