No Cukai For Golf Buggies

By Syed Akbar Ali

Hooray. The PM says that the Government will abolish import duties on Golf buggies. This is a very profound moment in the history of the country. I think everyone should write this down in their diaries. Here is the news :

"...The four-day tournament, he added, attracted a record audience locally and internationally, which was a good promotion for Malaysia. The country, said Najib, would continue to be a favourite destination for golfers in the region and beyond. “There are about 200 golf courses here and last year we had 350,000 visitors who can play golf all year round,” he added. Najib, who is also Finance Minister, announced an immediate abolishment of import duties for all golf buggies in the country, in an effort to spur the development of quality golf courses here...."

It was Bujai (a pro UMNO/BN Blogger like me) who alerted me to this yesterday. Do read Jai's take on the subject Golf For The Rakyat at his Blog Just Read. Also note the commentors.

The Government cant read so they will not be reading the Blogs. Even if they do, they cant comprehend. Something to do with density. OK so the rich and famous can now enjoy cheaper golf buggies. Bagus lah. But what about the ordinary rakyat guys?

What about removing duties for cars and motorbikes? What about removing APs?

By the way even though duties have been removed, I think the Golf buggies still require APs. In Malaysia everything requires APs. I say bro, Dato mana pegang AP Golf Buggy ?

No need insurances and roadtax....

Anyway the gorverment try to encourage more "Golfing tourist" to vist the country. More tourist means more business to the nation more properity to all...

Is it too dificult to understand?

Are there really 200 golf courses in this country?

Let's see - a full-featured 18-hole golf course requires a vast expanse of land. Multiply that by 200 and that sure is a lot of real estate.

The other day you wrote about the plight of the tigers. Well, all these recreational facilities will be at the expense of the tiger's natural habitat. Looks like the way modern life is marching on like a relentless juggernaut, it won't be long before we say "Bye bye Mr Stripes, and welcome to extinction".

The only consolation here is that it's extinction in the wild but tigers will definitely continue to exist but in artificial, man-made environments.

Evolve or be Extinct

ISAC,
'Golfing tourist' dont buy the buggies, golf club owner buys them.

Any other way you put it, the golf club management wont likely reduce their charges anyway. They dont buy buggies everyday.

Is it too difficult to understand?

People first, action now. So, in one fell sweep, Najib had enlightened us on his definition of rakyat.

Bagus la tu pasal bilangan rakyat yang perlu dijaga tak banyak. Senanglah memerintah negara.

The next move could well be the removal of duties for luxury cars, 3,000 cc upwards.

Could this be a sneak preview of the New Economic Model?

On the subject of APs and for some comedic relief, here's a old Comedy Court skit on Who wants to be a billionaire.
