Buang Masa News

By Syed Akbar Ali

Anwar fails to get judge recused

KUALA LUMPUR: Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim failed in his bid to get High Court judge Justice Mohd Zabidin Mohd Diah disqualified from presiding over his second sodomy trial. . . Defence counsel Karpal Singh then applied for a stay application pending Anwar’s appeal against the decision in the Court of Appeal. . . The stay was granted and the court fixed Jan 21 for mention pending the appeal.

.

This is the first ‘buang masa’ news. The real news is the last line above – they got the trial postponed until January 21st 2011. Having run out of the other stupid tactics to delay the trial (for example they wanted the actual DNA samples handed over to them) now they have hit upon another idea – ask the judge to discharge himself over the flimsiest of things (this is the second time they are doing it).

.

The judge will then postpone the trial to study the stupid request. Then he gave his ruling – twice now – saying request for discharge denied. Then they will appeal to the Court of Appeal that the judge had erred. That will take a couple of months. If the Court of Appeal says no, maybe they can appeal to Queen Elizabeth. And it goes on.

.

Do you notice that this trial does not go on for more than two days before it is postponed again? Isnt there such a thing as ‘abuse of the Court process’? Why is the Court tolerating this type of time wasting behaviour? I think we need judges with more gumption.

.

The second case of ‘buang masa’ is the following :

.

PUTRAJAYA: Talent Corporation Malaysia Bhd – a government agency to attract local and foreign talents to work in Malaysia – takes off on Jan 1.

.

“However, Talent Corporation will not act alone. Talent issues are broad and complex. These goals cannot be achieved by a single agency. Therefore, the Government will continue to engage both industry and talent to ensure our efforts are aligned as we work to achieve our economic goals for 2020,” he said.

.

I think someone has successfully pulled the wool over the PM’s eyes again

It is not clear how this Talent Corporation is going to get its KPIs structured. Or are they exempt from the KPIs? (That’s my guess). The last statement above by the PM is where the wool starts - Talent Corporation will not act alone’.

.

Err I think this was the game plan from Day 1. Some clever con-sultan must have thought up this idea. Lets go out and get some talent to come back. Lets set up a Talent Corporation. But of course Talent Corporation will not work alone. The Government will have to engage the con-sultans to search for the talent.

.

And just how much are we paying for this talent search? Does it run into the tens of millions or hundreds of millions of Ringgit? Satu kari kepala ikan RM30.00. So satu kepala ‘headhunted’ by Talent Corporation will cost how much? Just who are the lucky con-sultans? How many people is the Talent Corporation targeting to bring home?

.

I thought the Mamak Gang was already behind bars?

And Tan Sri Nur Muhammad Yakcop is in the Board of Trustees. This government certainly has a very good sense of humour.

Hello CJ Azmi,

Do something la. You can't just ignore the wayang that is going on in the trial. You have come up with so many ways to reduce backlog of cases la, improve deliveries la, setting up additional courts la bla bla bla. I am sure you will be able to ensure justice not only to that guy but most importantly, to the victim as well.

to me, they have 2 version of "talent", local ones are not considered as talented, that's why they don't give a damn if those local talents flow out to other countries or not.

while foreigners are considered talented. something like grass is greener out there.

the other is the con "business", as usual, everything is about conning money out of the country.

i'm just thinking, if those "talents" are paid rm100k out there, how to lure them to work here? pay them rm150k? or tax free or ... other goodies? over pay just to put them here? how much benefit will be gained by such "deals" then?

i have seen foreign company invited to set up their business here with lots of goodies from the government grant, and when the goodies period expired, the company just moved out to other country.

and since all key positions are held by their people, locals are just operation staff, by the time the company left, technical know how is quite limited to those staffed locals and can forget about the so call technologies transfer which was expected by the government.

i think people will be the same, once the goodies gone, they will go out to other country again. so what's the catch? pump them goodies forever?

just use the HR department in each ministry (industry) to search for this talents via local and international network...

no need to appoint consultants

Zaman Tun we already has this initiative - Brain Gain. No need to form new companylah like Talent Corp. We, the government company was entrusted to do so. We brought in few talents, let them lead some big projects but they left before project take off coz cannot adapt with the red tapes and government' servants way of working. Mana depa nak tahan, semua nak jadi boss.

Tonite we have dinner at the Embassy, to meet this group of CON&INSULT who fly all the way from Malaysia, interviewing us on this Malaysian diaspora...So tak payah tunggu Talent Corp start operation, depa dah start kerja dah!!!!

nak pesan ape-ape ke?
