I received the following article in the email. It says that it is written by a Stanley Koh who is "Head of MCA Research Unit". This article is going around the Internet and no one has refuted it thus far. I am a little surprised because the writer is asking people NOT to vote for the Barisan Nasional.
I hope the MCA and / or Stanley Koh can throw some light on this. Do you really mean this? If you clarify, I will be obliged to carry your clarification.
However these are just someone's thoughts. It is not a crime. In fact some of the points are quite sound and valid. It is just that polirtically how does the MCA take such a stand while still within the Barisan Nasional?
My comments are added at some places only.

It turns out that the government you voted in will not hold your hand to see you through hard times. Instead, it will make sure to add to your suffering because that is the easiest way it can avoid going bankrupt.
Barisan Nasional has apparently decided that the time has come to remove or cut subsidies — the kind of subsidies that poor people depend on, not the kind enjoyed by big corporations and monopolistic suppliers of utilities and infrastructural support.
(My comment : there is some truth in this. UMNO right wing Blogger (arent we all) has pointed this out that subsidies to major corporations including Air Asia run into the hundreds of millions of Ringgit. Even when these corporations make hundreds of millions of Ringgit in profits)
So what is the use of a government that will eagerly shake your hand during election time but will not hesitate to pull the rug from under your feet when it needs to save itself?
Few believe that the removal of subsidies on essential food items and fuels can save the Malaysian government from possible bankruptcy. If it does go bankrupt, it will be because it has failed to cleanse a corrupt system. It is better for Malaysians to be rich and to control a bankrupt government than to be poor and controlled by a corrupt government. Many countries have rich citizens with bankrupt governments.
(My comment : There is terrible wastage in the country. The GLCs are at the forefront of blowing money by the billions. The GLCs have surrendered their brains to the 'con-sultans', do read on. However I dont think the Government is in imminent danger of going bankrupt. Petronas still brings in the money. However we are beginning to hear strange stories about Petronas too. Helicopter charters that cost RM6000 per trip to fly to the oil rigs in the sea is one recent complaint).
You do not need an economist to tell you that RM100 in Malaysia today does not buy as much as it did last year.
In what we may call the Malaysian Misery Index, we can see that food prices have been spiralling upwards for years. For example, fresh tenggiri, which was RM13.23 a kilo in 1997, now costs
RM40 a kilo. A roasted duck cost RM13.47 in 1997, but is now at least RM38. And Malaysians have become used to the doubling in price of some food items during festive seasons.
Most Malaysians do not expect the situation to improve. Food prices will continue to go up and there is little hope that they will come down again.
(My comment : Food prices are going up the world over. Dont blame the Barisan Nasional Government. Even in squeaky clean and super efficient Singapore, the PAP lost 40% of the popular vote because the cost of living is going up. My concern is what are the Government's programs to increase the productivity and new wealth generating capacity of the people so that they can cope better with the rising costs? No Government on earth can stop prices from going up. Dont blame the BN Government entirely).
Two years ago, the BN government announced that it had set up a US$1.25 billion fund to increase food production and that it was targeting 100% self-sufficiency in rice consumption. What has happened to the fund and the target?
(My comment : I have some info on this. In 2008 when the price of rice shot up, there was a plan to plant 30,000 hectares of land in Sarawak with paddy to make us self sufficient in rice. The GLCs engaged 'con-sultans' who told them that the Sarawak idea would not generate a good return on investment. The idea was shelved. The alternative was that the GLC plant paddy in Sulawesi in Indonesia !! I could not believe this idea. Thank God that idea was shelved too. Why not just plant paddy in Thailand, the world's biggest exporter of paddy? Or better still why not just buy the paddy from the Thais? Apa beza if we plant 'our' paddy in Sulawesi? If we want to increase rice production, please ask the rice farmers, including those guys in Sekinchan, 'What do you need to increase your paddy output? That will be a good starting point. Apa susah sangat?)
Double Whammy
When the GST (goods and services tax) is fully implemented in 2011, it will be a double whammy for poor and middle-income households, pensioners, the unemployed and single parents.
Some have argued that imposing GST on Malaysian does not make much economic sense when only 6.8% of the population are taxpayers and a large majority earn low incomes. Furthermore, it is acknowledged that most of us are paying hidden taxes in highway tolls and electricity tariffs.
Indeed, the future looks bleak.
(My Comment : I agree with this point completely. We certainly do not need the GST at this point in time. Yes it is a consumption based tax but is the suffering working man's consumption going to increase anytime soon? No. He still consumes his nasi lemak and his teh tarik and pays RM2.50 for his breakfast. But with the GST, his nasi lemak and teh tarik remains the same but now he will have to pay more. Scrap the GST ok).
Yet, quite a number of us are gullible enough to think that the government will protect consumers. Are we not being stupid? Isn't it better to be wiser and brace for tougher times ahead?
Instead of believing the promises of a government that has a dismal performance record, we should believe the law of inflation, which says, “Whatever goes up will go up some more.”
Ronald Reagan once described inflation as a violent mugger, a threatening armed robber and a deadly hit man. In the Malaysian context, that is an apt description not of inflation, but of the BN government’s behaviour and policies.
So how do we fight the inflation of food prices?
Economists generally agree that the average Malaysian household spends about 75% of its income on food. Food price hikes will therefore have an adverse impact upon disposable income and force us to make a lifestyle change.
To Fight Inflation
Here are some of the things we can do:
·Stop eating at expensive restaurants.
·Boycott traders, hypermarkets and hawker stalls that charge unreasonable prices.
·Shop intelligently for value and do not be too impressed by branding.
·Work out a budget before buying. Look out for special sales.
·Prevent wastage by not buying more than you can eat.
·Tell friends and acquaintances about shops that charge excessively.
·Avoid buying expensive beverages or foodstuff and find alternatives for nutritional value.
·Boycott chained markets and fast-food joints. They are monopolised by a few large companies and can therefore raise prices at whim.
Perhaps economist Milton Friedman was right when he said, “If you put the federal government in charge of the Sahara desert, in five years there will be a shortage of sand.”
Malaysians do not take the official Consumer Price Index (CPI) seriously. They know it does not accurately reflect price rises in essential foodstuffs.
Many suspect that the government uses it as an instrument to deceive the public into thinking that things are hunky-dory when they are not. The government develops statistics so that the inflation-weary public would direct its hostility towards businesses, and not blame official mismanagement.
(My comment : I agree. The Government must stop making a complete fool of itself by saying that the CPI has only gone up 3.5% when chicken price alone has gone up 30% from RM6 per kilo to RM8 per kilo. The Government does not capture basic food items in the CPI ?? They use some weird measure that captures 500 items like tractor tyres, car batteries, spent plutonium etc that has little or no connection with reality. Please fire the 'con-sultans' and talk to the people.)
The average household consumption expenditure over the last 20 years has increased by 181.8%. In 1973, it was RM412. By 1993-94, it had gone up to RM1,161. In 1999, it touched RM1,631.
According to Professor Lim Teck Ghee, real household income has been growing, but at the snail-pace rate of 0.9% per year. More than half of the population are in the low-income category.
Today, a family of five spends 50% to 60% of household income on food compared with 20% in 1998 and 15% in 1988.
Not long ago, there was official acknowledgement that 95% of families are finding it hard to cope with the rise in food prices.
In fact, the biggest failure of the Ninth Malaysia Plan is that it did not help Malaysians improve their quality of living. Inflation, whether it is imported or locally generated, raises the cost of living and lowers the quality of living.
'Why Not Change The Government?’
In 2006, when Najib Tun Razak was Deputy Prime Minister, he asked Malaysians to change their lifestyle in the face of the rising cost of living.
A blogger by the name of Chong wrote in response: “Perhaps, the Prime Minister should have done some simple calculations himself. People like us basically have no lifestyle, just merely surviving with our earnings. So how are we going to change (our lifestyle)?
“Inflation has gone up 4.5% (and above) and the government is pushing the cost of living higher by increasing electricity tariffs, but our income remains the same.”
Others felt it would be easier to change the government than to change a non-existent lifestyle.
“Instead of listening to Najib asking us to change,” one critic remarked, “Why not we change the government at the next general election?”
To me, that makes a lot of sense. Any government that is willing to build air-conditioned toilets around a city at more than RM100,000 each has no business planning a national economy.
When such a government decides to cut subsidies, many of us will wonder whether the so-called “savings” will instead go towards more majestic arches, fanciful lamp-posts, refurbishments of VIP residences, luxurious government bungalows and fruitless overseas trips by ministers.
Any government that stands accused of having wasted RM320 billion in 20 years — through corruption, wastage and mismanagement — definitely does not deserve to be re-elected.
(My comment : I beg to differ. Even squeaky clean Singapore cannot control high food prices, high house prices. I want my Government to change things and amend things but I dont want to change the Government. I dont think PAS or PKR or DAP can pull this country forward. If you vote for the Pakatan, you may as well go and join the Obedient Wives Club and learn to salt eggs. That is what you will be eating. All said and done, we all eat well. That RM1.30 nasi lemak has rice, eggs, ikan bilis and even chicken in it. Malaysians dont realise this but even the layman still eats meat three times a day. Dont believe me come to Jalan Masjid India and see the ordinary folks gorging themselves. I believe we can eat even more. We will have to pay for it though but we must have the capacity to pay. Prices are NOT coming down. Even if you migrate to Australia prices are NOT coming down)

May be the BN Govt will listen to a Chinese when a Chinese write (talk). 10s of Malay bloggers write the same thing but Govt take no heed. Now the Malay blogger need to push a writing by a Chinese to make the issue more noticeable by the Govt.
Syed Bro..
It still not fit my logic, BN not doing good thing, Have Clown Minister, Stupid Cabinet but we still vote them???
Why??, Because the Pakatan Rakyat leaders also in-competant to rules Malaysia???..Our telent corp must have very tough job to find a good Malaysian politician in oversea.....ha ha ha.
I think at this point the best thing that could possibly happen to Barisan Nasional is for it to lose the next General Election.
*
It has come to view itself not as the Government of the day but the Government ad infinitum.
*
It wants to win to maintain it's position, not because it has a coherent plan for the future. Not because it has the best interests of the very people it claims to represent.
*
Losing would prick the bubble and make BN look at what it has become and how far away it is from being what it needs to be.
*
If PR wins and maintains it's current performance, then it could quite easily be replaced by a revitalised BN at the next GE.
*
A BN which has decided to make 1Malaysia it's core guiding principal from root to branch; and not just a slogan which most leaders spend their time qualifying and nullifying.
*
Sometimes you need to accept that fact that's something is broken before you can fix it and BN is broken.
Dear En. Syed,
The Government should start a farming school. Not all kids are academically smart. Some just have strengths in other areas. Teach them on how to run a farm etc (they learn about biology, chemistry, mathematic). Then when it is time to harvest, teach them how to sell the produce (they learn about business, enterpenuership).
If they can earn money, they will know why they need to study biology, chemistry, mathematics, accounting, enterpenuership etc. It's all related.
Farming/agriculture is big business.
subsidi minyak RM10 bil (shared among 28 mil Msians) ditarik, subsidi IPP RM20 bil (shared among few Msians) dikekalkan. make sense? "yup, it does make sense" said con-sultants hired by PEMANDU
Qs i have in mind. is this gment pro-ppl or pro-business? why do they cut ppl subsidy but at the same time retain the corporate subsidy (i.e. incentives, tax holidays, grants etc)? even minimum wage pun after decades tak boleh buat keputusan untuk implement. nanpak sangat pro-kapitalist. ingat undi capitalists cukup untuk menang PRU?
At the end of the day, the choice is between voting for the devil you know or the devil you don't, which is'nt much of a choice really.
I wud like to share this, it works for me...I did this when I was working..now I'm happily retired....
1, how many of us record our daily spending.....if anything it gives u a spending habit, hence where wastages can occure
2, write down what u need to buy..hence no impulse buying...and in the process you may come across that item at a cheap price...BUY IT THEN...
3, we are very cleaver to work out busness plans and butget for our bosses, but now for ourselves....
Want to know what I spend on 3rd Jan 2009...I got it recorded somewhere :)
Guess what I'm happily retired and I'm not even a million hair...
With friends like MCA (in BN), who needs DAP?
Can someone make a full sentence from the followings:-
Ethos ConSultan,
Omar Ong,
Felda Global
Borrow from EPF
Total
Loss
Everytime goods prices going up, all we hear is CHANGE YOUR LIFESTYLE. its like a millionth time already. why don't THEY CHANGE THEIR LIFESTYLE?
rakyat berhutang keliling pinggang hanya utk bagi makan keluarga sendiri sedangkan para menteri masih lagi bermewah2 dgn kereta besar, makan di hotel 5star, shopping luar negeri sampai x cukup kapal terbang nak bawak balik barang.... apa yg mereka faham tentang ubah cara hidup?
jangan cakap x serupa bikin. itu pasal ramai org marah. rakyat hidup susah tapi para pemimpin masih di awang-awangan, pembaziran masih berleluasa. sebelum tuduh rakyat x sedar diri, sila cermin dulu muka sendiri ok?
Correct me if I'm wrong, we need an alternative for today's govt, but what option do we have? Opposition? Please allow me to laugh, they're no better. even worse, have you seen the their KPIs on all the states led by them? No corruption? Super-efficiency? I beg to differ tuan Syed.
Today, after, so long, I had to ask my son to go by bus from Muar to Malacca to fetch my daughter. It was 6.15pm when we arrived at Muar local bus stand. No more bus to Malacca after 6pm, I was told. Two counters were closed. So many taxis were there. Taxi driver said only if I charter whole taxi, they willing. Not satisfied, we went to the outstation bus stand. No bus to Malacca. Taxi, only charter, at RM80! Then another taxi said Rm 50. Not someone to encourage such prices, we came back to local bus stand. Finally got to know another express bus to Malacca near ferry station to Dumai. Only Rm5.10. The bus scheduled at 7.15pm arrived at 7.35pm. Normally, we travel to Malacca which is only 45km away by our own car consuming at most RM25 to and fro!
I dont care if the rich subsidies the poors but what fool!!, the poor subsidies the rich!! bloody nonsense IPP!!
Dilema rasanya diri ini...Pilih PR masuk mulut buaya..pilih BN sang rimau merasakan kancil bangga dan merelakan dirinya dimakan....so apa perlu kami marhain ini buat...apa pilihan yang kami ada lagi....
'Even if you migrate to Australia prices are NOT coming down)' You are right but my purcghsing power for every dollar I earn will go up. Anybody who has worked and lived in both Malaysia and Australia will attest to that. Food price increase is a worldwide phenomena but I think you either do not or do not wish to understand that the Malaysian government has a very big role to play in the control of inflation and increasing the wage levels in Malaysia. By the way that RM1.30 nasi lemak is only sold for SGD1 in the coffee shops near the HDB flats in Singapore. Therefore dollar for dollar the Singapore government has done a remarkable job in controlling food prices compared to the Malaysian government. Australia offers me better wages compared to Malaysia while Singapore actually ha cheaper food for the ordinary worker. The Malaysian government has failed on both counts and it is also the failure of your 'Ketunan Malayu' government with your Sultan of Con and Perkosa. Try 'Ketuanan Rakyat and you may actually see much better results.
I am a BN supporter but lately I feel that we are not heaqding the 'right' way and nothing has changed. So we should give PR a chance next GE.
OK guys the hard cold reality facing us is that food prices are going up and up while many Malaysians looking at their pay-slip see that their gaji has stayed stagnant for the longest time. Well, dire situations call for out-of-the-box response. We will eat cockroaches and rats, then. There are plenty of those around and, hey, they are free and protein-rich! ;)
Current Govt needs to take care of the big boys, they are contributing to the coming war (election) fund. They need a lot more this time.
So we MUST vote them out.
Instead of changing the government, I believe it is better to change the opposition. The current folks in the opposition are a bunch of idiots motivated only by their desires to win elections. How else can you explain their behavior that repeated try to undermine public institutions like the police, judges, court process, election process etc. They only complain and make unsubstantiated accusations rather than working with the goverment of the day to identify actions that will help the people. They even try to undermine the 1Malaysia effort, an effort to try to pull all Malaysians together....amazing. Get rid of the opposition!

You are spot on. In 1985, a car cost RM25k while earning $1500. Now, the same car cost $150k while earning $5k. What is the government doing, asking the rakyat to keep electing them and urging to change our only lifestyle i.e. earn a living for our family. PM always talk about corruption by other but refuse to correct the wrongs existing in his own cabinet. Yes, the devil we know is still better than the one we don't know. But to me both devils are bad. Why can't the devil we know change accordingly. Corruption is BAD irrespective which party form the government. They sack ministers if seen and/or found guilty because they worry the people might vote them out. Here in Malaysia, the government of the day (BN and PR) protect & award their party members even though they are proven corrupted.
Those were the days when Rm50 can last me and my family of four for more than three days. That was twenty years ago. But we have to accept that time do not stand still and so are all others.
May I suggest something which I feel the government should look into seriously. It is about MONOPLOY.
1. Astro Service. Because there is no other competitor, Astro will do anything they wish for at the expense of the customers. When they increase the monthly fees, at best we can shout foul play. The government should invite other players in the industry, one or two more. Let the rakyat choose which company is worth paying.
I thought Astro is being paid by the customers. Why then do we notice some advertisemnets being aired?
2) Puspakom. Is this a GLC? If not, why allow them to monopolize?
Again, let the rakyat make their own choice which company can serve them better.
3) Limo service at the KLIA. There is only one can company that is being given the permit. As a result, we hear numerous complaints. But what choice do the customers have? They dont, because there is only one comapny operating the service.
To the Minister/Ministers in charge, jangan marah lah kalau rakyat buat analisa sebab perkara ini berlaku. We can easily conclude that there are only reasons; Either the Minister is sleeping or there is this "under-the-table" business going on.
STOP THE MONOPOLY IN ANY SERVICE INDUSTRY.
dear syed
i just got my electricity bill this morning, the amount doubled from last month's bill - contrast to what newspaper said the increment is small @ average 7%. that moment, i thought "maybe its time to change the government becoz they care about IPPs (afraid investors lari, agreement etc.) more than they care about the rakyat (the fact is Gment has binding agreement with rakyat to be fair in wealth distribution). i still dont understand fact that IPP subsidy of RM20 bil is retained but fuel subsidy of RM10 bil withdrawn. why? why? why?
After reading the comments..I think BN should be blamed for creating a nation full of people who are whiners, selfish, ingrates, materialistic and unpatriotic..
Funny thing is this LOUDEST group of whiners can AFFORD to buy carS, have latest IT gadgets, use air-con at least 8 hours a day, eat MINIMUM 3x a day, have LIVE IN maids, can afford to go for local or overseas HOLIDAYS, drink OVERPRICED coffees, can go about doing their business SAFELY..
Frankly, I believe MOST OF US live better than rakyat in developed countries..BUT of course if you PICK & CHOOSE the good stuff from developed countries, Malaysia is found lacking.. which country doesn't?
To the WHINERS out there, I suggest you read the SECRET.. the more you complain that "you don't have enough", the universe will just serve you your just dessert. Padan muka!
As for me, I thank God everyday for all the blessings that he bestowed to me & family. When you SMILE at the world, the world will smile back at you.. TRY IT sometimes whiners!
Surviving the coming hard times?
No need to be a genius also know the coming times are going to be very very hard on Malaysians all over. Why? All the energy have being diverted towards maintaining status quo at all costs.
We have stop thinking and progressing and are all zombies being daily fed political dramas and propaganda churned out daily to keep the average citizen in check thru intimidation, fear, falsehood, impersonation, outwitting and other devious means.
I have not come across a single day where you can actually feel sincerity in the words spoken by an upright person.
The only surviving Malaysians are going to be UMNO, MCA, MIC and all other cronies who can squeeze every drop of penny from you and me thru every conceivable ideas and means.
Yeh! Everyone change your lifestyle and become zombies and live like the saying " Kias pagi makan pagi, kias petang makan petang." Let the future generations of Malaysians live like zombies too cos at the current rate we are going "Who really cares?" Doomsday is coming anyway!
SAA,
After 2008, BN should have seen the light and changed. It is very business centric and not people centric. Why should we keep voting for BN if they don't want to change? They seem more interested in protecting their vested interests instead of governing justly.
Another note, I remember that the DPM said the business will be monitored so that they will not increase the priced indiscriminately after the electricity tariff hike. Well guess what? The price of Gardenia breads and buns have already increased. I don't know about other brands.
Another off topic item. Do you know we don't have FULL CREAM condensed milk in Msia? It is creamer that is made from palm oil. I heard that it has something to do with the CPI and price-control. If I want full cream, I buy it from Singapore - doesn't this sound ridiculous?

Give me your phone number and I will show you thousands of 'whiners' who are fighting tooth and nail just to stay alive. They mostly do thank God for what they have but is it wrong to want a better life. Do not be such an insensitive ass hole and perhaps the world would be a better place not just for yourself but also for those whom you callously dub 'whiners'
