A few Bloggers met up with Dato Sri Dr Chua Soi Lek at the MCA HQ in Jalan Ampang this morning (Thursday 27 Decemver 2012). Here is a deliberately downsized picture :
Each time I have met Dr Chua Soi Lek he talks straight with no pretenses. We covered a range of issues. He highlighted many concerns but at the end of it all he is very confident of the MCA and the BN doing well in the coming general elections. The man is a fighter.
When questioned about the support for him within the MCA, he acknowledged that there were factions. But he also asked which political party does not have factions? He says the only way to overcome any factionalism in the party is to work hard. And he said he works very hard - something which few can deny.
Perhaps the MCA has not had a president who works as hard as Chua Soi Lek. The party is making inroads. Dr Chua spoke of a Net savvy DAP Youth leader (identified with Ronnie Liu) who recently joined the MCA.
He also voices disappointment at inconsistent Government policy that is making things difficult. The AES issue is just one. Dr Chua has made a simple suggestion to have a six month trial run first to iron out all the bugs.
He also speaks plain common sense about the English teachers issue. Why hire the Mat Sallehs with their strange accents that no one can understand? And why hire English teachers from India with their even stranger accents? Why not just hire our local retired English teachers who are willing to teach? As long as they have the experience just ask them "Are you willing to teach English on a contract basis?" Problem can be solved.
Dr Chua says passing English should be made compulsory in all schools. Mandarin should also be offered in all Government schools as part of Pupils Own Language or POL. Siapa mahu boleh belajar Mandarin.
Then Dr Chua spoke of people within Government who want to sabotage the Government. (I fully agree with this view). He speaks of unnecessary hurdles and brickwalls that are thrown up by people within Government to frustrate Government propgrams.
He gave the example of three 'sekolah bantuan penuh' Chinese schools. The SRJK Hua Ming in Gopeng (sorry kalau wrong spelling), SRJK Gunong Rapat and SRJK Kopisan. These three schools have already been alotted certain sums of money for their school projects. Amounts of RM500,000, RM300,000 and RM1.0 million respectively.
However despite much efforts the funds are not being released by the Government folks. So here is a situation where money has already been allocated but not released by bureaucrats, under various procedural excuses. Both sides have their arguments. Meantime school expansion does not happen. Votes are also lost.
Dr Chua Soi Lek reiterates that no one has done more for Chinese education as well as educating the Chinese in the country than the MCA. The TAR College and now the UTAR have produced over 200,000 graduates including many DAP leaders. This is something he is really proud of.
Revisiting the issue of factionalism and lack of support he spoke bluntly about the Ong Tee Keat faction trying to sabotage him in Melaka. Dr Chua feels that if there is a hung Parliament after the general elections, Ong Tee Keat may just pack his bags and leave. Like Chua Jui Ming.
He said that at one time Ong Tee Keat did conduct an online poll to ask if MCA should leave the BN.
He said that in the 2008 elections, Chua Jui Ming had some of the MCA 'bilik gerakan' closed early which gave a very bad image to the voters. People thought they were being sombong for closing early.
He also spoke of non cooperation from Ketua Bahagian UMNO. In Gopeng where the MCA held the Parliamentary seat plus two out of three State seats, the Ketua Bahagian UMNO did not give the MCA some of the election funds that were allocated for the area. He says the same thing has happened to MCA's Ampang division. This slows down the MCA's activities as well.
He says the BN lost the Gopeng seat because of sabotage. The people who were supposed to organise transport and logistics for the 4,600 Orang Asli voters in the jungle did not get things organised until 4 pm - one hour before the polls closed. Dr Chua feels this was done on purpose.
And here is his warning - this sabotage will be duplicated again this time. Why? Because the same saboteurs are still lurking around. Dr Chua says they do not understand the meaning of 'demi negara, bangsa dan agama'.
MCA is again putting in for 40 Parliamentary seats. Dr Chua says he is willing to give up any seats to other BN parties if they think they have a better chance of winning them. He says he has already agreed to let other BN parties contest two MCA seats - including one requested by Kayveas.
He says with slightly tongue in cheek, "Which MCA president is so good?".
He is not worried about the Dong Zong and the ultra groups. He says their influence is waning as the younger generation of Chinese is becoming more multi racial in their outlook.
Coming back to Ong Tee Keat, he says (again with a bit of tongue in cheek) that he is the first MCA president who defeated two former party presidents to secure the MCA presidency. He says he is not boasting but it is a matter of fact. So he says he can defeat any number of factions in the MCA. Dr Chua feels quite certain.
Dr Chua Soi Lek fully supports the PM Dato Sri Najib Tun Razak. He says people can see that the PM is doing his best. Unfortunately, he says, the PM is surrounded by two MCA men who are anti Chua Soi Lek. But he says he can overcome that too.
Dr Chua says he meets many people quietly, especially the Indian community. He tells his people not to inform the Press of these meetings with the Indian community.
His advice to Datuk Liow Tiong Lai the deputy president of the MCA is to be patient and not challenge the presidency yet. He says if Liow challenges and loses, it will be the end of his career. He says all deputy presidents of the MCA have never become president except one - himself. Again he said it matter of factly with no attitude.
He feels vindicated over his incessant campaigning against the PAS version of hudud. It has had an effect on the Chinese community. The recent actions by PAS in Kelantan have only reinforced his warnings to the community.
Dr Chua Soi Lek also cracked a joke. Asked about the fact that the DAP's Nga Kor Ming and Ngeh Koo Ham of Perak have acquired interests in 10,000 acres of land in Kelantan (all done legally of course) he wants the DAP to teach the Barisan Nasional how to acquire 10,000 acres of land despite being Perak EXCO members for just one year?
My comments : I spoke with a prominent person about Chua Soi Lek and he agreed that Dr Chua is working hard and has the peoples' interests at heart.
My friend said that the Chinese community - being a business community - should also be aware that despite all the chaos going on in the world around us, Malaysia still enjoys good economic growth of over 5%. Inflation is within means and we have a low unemployment rate.
Since the fall of Hosni Mubarak and the Muslim Brotherhood taking over, the unemployment rate in Egypt is now at 35%. Very soon the Egyptians will be eating grass.
Imagine if the PAS takes over, what will be our unemployment rate? If PAS comes into power, do you think the hair dressing salons will suffer higher or lower unemployment?

Answer ; At least about 50 percent since woman will not be allowed to work !
If PAS comes into power, do you think the hair dressing salons will suffer higher or lower unemployment?
higher !
Despite his opponents' incessant attacks on his past sexual indiscretion, I salute him as a leader because he dared to take the bull by the horn and addressed issues factually. He must be selected as a candidate in next election to win either to become an effective minister or opposition leader depending on how the BN perform.
Tuan Syed,
Anwar dan CSL dedua ada mistress. Satu mengaku, satu tidak. Dedua kantoi dekat benda besi.
But CSL guna otak, whila Anwar takde otak. If Anwar boleh jadi mcm CSL, I think, PKR masih hidup kuat.
Anon 5:21 we had Chinese tea. CSL had plain water (in that plastic cup). Lets wait and see.
Bro why is the deliberate downsized picture, I don't get it!
Pasquale,
Not everyone wants to be identifiable. BTW whats the time difference bro? Up early or staying up late?

My egyptians friend are insulted by your "eat grass" thing. They say no grass in egypt. Only sand and uncollected thrash.
Also, I am waiting for the day the Morsi gomen bomb the hell out of the pyramids. They are just talibans in suits/white robes.

Up fu#king early, when I sent you the messageit was 5.30am and snowing heavily outside, this reply is sent at five mins to 6am Canadian time!
In 1999, BN & MCA was saying the political change in next door Indonesia creating instability and unemployment.
Alot of Chinese middle-class bit the poison and voted with BN that year!
Now Indonesia has been growing faster than Malaysia for the past 10 years and some more...
Many Malaysians are doing business there, Chinese and Malays too.
Now, Soi Lek and Syed Ali are lecturing Chinese community, especially the business class on negative political changes in Egypt?!
Let's wait for GE13, the Chinese voters are ready.

I always wanted to know whether is true Ong Ka Chuan is making a come back to the top leadership..
Looks like CSL's sexual episode does not bother you (and rightfully so). Can you show the same magnanimity to the Rear Admiral. Ofcourse there is a difference. CSL was honest and openly admitted his indiscretion.
Duit aku punah p beli saham csl, ingat chua so lek punya company
I don't get it,all the while sleeping and suddenly wake up calling all the Malay bloggers to tell UMNO that he already awake to negotiate the seat.
When will palaniavel turn.

Can't agree more with CSL about the silly idea of importing Engish teachers from anywhere. Side-lining and ignoring our senior citizens' potential is a big mistake. Retired English teachers are my best bet. Next are retired civil servants of the english-medium days whom are anytime more proficient in both grammar and conversation. Give them one-week training on curriculum and they will do the job with more dedication as they will be doing it for the country. They will cost 1/3 of that offered to foreign teachers.
I just wonder what has happened to the consultative committee in the the MOE, (if ever there was one).
Whatever best efforts that MCA or UMNO is or will be undertaking, the majority of Chinese will never return back to BN again for the following reasons as in the eyes of the Chinese:
1. MCA has lost all its bargaining power as junior partner to UMNO.
2. MCA is in the same league as UMNO as far as corruption is concerned
3. MCA has no 'ball' to challenge UMNO on the many discriminative ruling against non-bumi whether it's annual university intake, Government contracts, civil servant and even BTN blatant propaganda.
4. Apart from Ong Tee Keat, almost all of the MCA presidents are either tainted or fighting for their own self glory and power.
5. The straw that broke the camel back is when in one of the UMNO General Assembly a few years back, Hishamuddin waved the Keris at the Chinese and started screaming for their blood. This happened right after the solid votes by the Chinese in support of Mahathir.
It's a lost hope for BN lest of all for MCA to expect the Chinese votes to return until and unless....there is a total change.

Obviously, CSL has some good ideas but how come we don;t hear of them in the MSM ?
Has the MCA been blindsided by the MSM as well ?
Dato Syed
CSL's prediction of BN reps abandoning ship if the GE13 produced a hung parliament, is a real possibility.
Most BN reps are in politics because of the money, power and position. Not for the principles and the philosophy.
Of course all of them turun padang, balik kawasan, melawat kawasan banjir, dan berbagai-bagai lagi. The main motive however - is to jaga kawasan. Not much different from the motive of feudal chiefs before the British arrived on the scene in Malaya.
These BN reps are never known to say anything serious or meaningful or carry out civil society based projects that amplify or asked to clarify our policies on education, on our taxation, on the management of our economy, etc, etc.
That they have to toe the party line is a weak excuse to keep mum. If this is their modus operandi, voters must reject them. We do not need YES men.
We want wakil rakyats that can express our aspirations and fears and live the life of moderation, just as we all are.
That they have no access to the print media is also no longer valid.
Dato Syed, you are no politician. Yet your blog is a must read for a balanced public discourse on matters important for the rakyat and voters. If you can do it -- why not them?
BN must therefore stop this jumping ship before it happens. Get all reps to pre-sign resignation letters Once they jump, make sure they jumped for good - into the very very polluted Sungai Klang or Sungai Juru.
Thank you

Haiya.. one single click on the image, will popped up a bigger photo lah. Can see everybody clearly.
ANAK POH KONG,
PLEASE BEAR IN MIND, THE MALAYS ARE MORE THAN READY TO GO FOR POLL AS WELL..
WE HAVE NEVER BEEN SO EAGER TO CAST OUR VOTES AS BEFORE. JUST WAIT AND SEE..
Bringing in retired teacher will not be a long term solution to the English problem. There is nothing wrong with speaking English in a strange accent. Most of us do it here for English and BM . I really do not see the harm in bringing in foreign teachers to complement the shortage of English teachers here. Lets strive towards an educated country regardless of where we get the expertise from. US welcomed Albert Einstein with open arms when that guy can barely speak English , simply because they knew he can contribute so much to science in the US. If we welcomed or even be able to lure them here it will do so much good to our education.

----shows how arrogant, hypocrite and racist you are,.....yet calling others racist. So typical of DAP chauvanist kiasu type.
Being racist myself, the Malays are ready too....but make sure your arrogant DAP put up candidates in malay areas too...multi-racial, wtf
MCA & GERAKAN is not relevant anymore.
All the Chinese are voting DAP.
This time ALL the Chinese are against the ruling Malays.
DAP need PAS & PKR to topple BN only. Nothing better than that.
For DAP. PAS is a cancer, while PKR so, so. DSAI just a puppet leader, while DAP manage the whole thing, money, assets, contracts, top mgt for BNM, Petronas, all GLCs & GOCs.
i hate it when some chinese and dap supporters keep on saying that mca has lost the chinese ground, tat mca has been the 2nd fiddle to umno, that mca has no bargaining power against umno.
in the first place you guys are the one that causes mca to lose that bargaining power. your so call shift of support has caused the only major nationwide chinese-based party within the gov to lose its capability in championing your rights. this was the party that has the chinese interest within the cabinet. now you have dap and they are not in the gov. for the last 5 years, BN was still giving to the chinese despite the lost of support, if BN wins this time, i am sure there will be voices that will question this. i know its the rakyat money bla bla bla... but be aware of the fact that the chinese are the reason why mca lost its hold. do not at any one time think that mca was the one that lost it...
and if its true that dap says such about mca, then dap wants a subdued malay...which would be next to impossible. look at the result of their tryst with pas. we now have islamic laws that will govern the life of the chinese. do not regret if your kids must pass sejarah islam or bahasa arab for univ entrant. or for non-muslims to cover the head n wear hijabs to enter offices in putrajaya.
batcha
ahaaa....Chua soil leg is an angry man today complete with "scoops and spinning” thing ...its not what you wish don't you
Salam Syed,
During Tee Keat’s tenure as MCA chief many unprecedented records were set. He was the first-ever president to lose a vote of confidence in an EGM. He was also the first president to lose a reelection before his term expired. Furthermore, he set a record by holding two EGMs in a span of six months between October 2009 and March 2010. All in all, he left behind a trail of misfortune and misery for MCA.
On March 28 last year, the central delegates decidedly voted that enough was enough. They decided that Tee Keat is not fit to lead any more even though he keeps accusing others of being incompetent.
As far back as Oct last year I myself blogged about the high possibility of OTK doing a froggy.
You can read about it here:
