- Violence flaring up around country kills 49 people; Egyptian president enacts Mubarak-style executive power in Ismailia, Suez, Port Said in attempt to sooth opposition, cool tempers.
- CAIRO, Jan 28 (Reuters) - Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi declared a month-long state of emergency in three cities along the Suez Canal where dozens of people have been killed over the past four days in protests his allies say are designed to overthrow him.
- Seven people were shot dead and hundreds were injured in Port Said on Sunday during the funerals of 33 people killed there when locals angered by a court decision went on the rampage as anti-government protests spread around the country.
- In Cairo the newly appointed Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim was ejected from the funeral of one of the police officers who died during Saturday's clashes in Port Said, according to witnesses and police sources.
- A police officer at the funeral said many of his colleagues blame the interior minister for the deaths of at least two policemen during Saturday's clashes as he did not allow the police there to carry weapons and were only given teargas bombs.
- Protesters say Morsi has betrayed the revolution's aims.
- "None of the revolution's goals have been realized," said Mohamed Sami, a protester in Cairo's Tahrir Square, the cauldron of the uprising that erupted on Jan. 25, 2011 and toppled Mubarak 18 days later.
- "Prices are going up. The blood of Egyptians is being spilt in the streets because of neglect and corruption and because the Muslim Brotherhood is ruling Egypt for their own interests."

Tuan Syed,
There was no intelligence left in Egypt. Let the so-called 'islamist' and whatever religious crap their wanted to be killing each other. Hopefully before year 2015 all their population totally destroyed. May the God Allah curse all of them and the world will be a better place for us.
-Mat Guyver-
Morsi thinks the ppl of Egypt want islamic state/sharia but the protesters ' slogan is ' bread, freedom and social justice'
muslims brotherhood did not start the revolution, they r opportunists, they hijacked the goals started by the liberals.
In the guise of democracy, Morsi issued decrees to control, just like the ayatollahs of iran, issued religious decrees to control,( nobody dare to challenge when they say it's God's instructions!!smart fellows)
what they need to do is just let the existing government do their job first.. the government is not a magician,or if it is then those hoxoa pocos is just a lie.. just like Anwar Braman promise to malaysian..
tell me which islamist/cleric controlled governments do well economically,!!!Egypt still need financial aid from US... they are more interested in social engineering, subjecting muslims to more rules and regulations.
