The last few weeks have been quite a shocker for India. The Indian premier Narendra Modi has gone from being BFF with President "Dolan" Trump to Modi now declaring that he will "never visit Washington again".
In just a few short weeks India has had the door slammed in their face by the Americans.
First there was the 25% tariff imposed on Indian exports to the US. Followed up by another 25% tariffs - making it 50% tariffs on Indian exports to USA. Yesterday without any flinching Mr Trump said 'I love tariffs'.
Then the US came up with the US$1.0 million fee for expedited immigrant visa applications. US$2.0 million for 'corporate sponsored' visas. What this means is that naturalised US citizens or PR holders who wish to bring over their parents and grandparents from Gujarat or Maharashtra have to wait at the end of the line. Unless they want to pay US$1.0 million visa fees for each of their grandparents.
But the real shocker was the new US$100,000 fee to apply for a HB1 work visa to work in the United States. This means the Patels and Shamalans will not be applying for their entry level jobs in the USA anymore. Where will they get US$100,000 to apply for a work visa?
Then a few days back the Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar made a long speech at the UN. He basically said 'India is Nambar Wan'. Here is a picture of Jaishankar addressing the UN General Assembly in New York.
What does this really mean? It means that India is not really relevant to the United States. They never were. America can do without the Indians. The US stock market is up and away. The US economy is booming.
American tech companies now have to go head to head with the Chinese. And Russians. The best AI programmers in the world now are Chinese and Russians - educated in their own countries. The Germans, South Koreans and Taiwanese are also software powerhouses. You dont hear about them as much because they do not speak English.
Did you know that India does not manufacture a single micro-chip. I believe there was some government research agency that tried making chips - at huge expense. But there are no commercial chip manufacturers in India. The Indian premier Modi recently said that India will begin manufacturing computer chips this year 2025 (three months left). But Jayanth Bhandari says those are 35 year old technology 18 nm micro-chips. Huawei has shocked the world with its new 3 nm micro chips.
Why is India making 35 year old technology 18 nm (nanometer) micro chips? Because all the machinery and equipment to make the chips have to be imported from overseas. India does not have the technology. And no one will sell the latest 3 nm or 2 nm chipmaking technology to India.
No problem. Modi has already announced to a largely illiterate Indian audience that by end 2025 India will become the chip manufacturing hub for the entire world. (In three months' time). Modi also said that over the next few years the "new" chip industry will create 150,000 jobs in India. Jayanth Bhandari says that every day over 68,000 new babies are born in India.
India is another problematic country.
1. Car bomb at least 10 dead
Associated Press: Car bomb outside Pakistan’s security force headquarters kills at least 10, dozens injured
A powerful car bomb outside the headquarters of Pakistan’s paramilitary security forces killed at least 10 people on Tuesday and wounded 30 others, authorities said. Before detonating their vehicle, as many as six militants inside the car stepped outside and engaged troops in an intense shootout, according to the police. All six attackers were reported to have been killed.
2. Khyber Pakhtunhwa clashes 64 dead
My comments: Only 74 dead. What is 74 dead? They still have over 200 million population.
