The Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, for a three-day U.S. state visit. Trump personally met Xi on the tarmac — an unusual protocol gesture for a visiting foreign leader.
There is a short video. You will see that as soon as they shook hands Trump and Xi immediately began talking and they spent THREE MINUTES engaged in conversation at the bottom of the stairs. This is a very good sign.
There was a military arrival ceremony, honor guard, national anthems and a military flyover.
The visit is Xi's first Washington visit in more than a decade and their third face-to-face meeting since Trump's return to office.
Major subjects include trade, rare-earth supplies, artificial intelligence, Taiwan/security and Iran.
The U.S.–China trade truce has reportedly been extended to January 10, according to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
Thursday: formal White House ceremonies and a state dinner.
Friday: Xi and Peng are scheduled to visit the National Archives with Trump and Melania.
