From just a few hours ago, Mexico is in turmoil. There is an armed insurgency that has erupted after some drug lord by the name of El Mencho was killed yesterday Sunday 22 Feb 2026 by Mexican Police and the American DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency). Here is some news:
February 2026, the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, commonly known as "El Mencho," was killed during a military operation in Mexico.
Here are the key details regarding this event:
- Death of "El Mencho" (Feb 2026): Mexican federal officials announced that "El Mencho," one of the country's most wanted drug traffickers, was killed on Sunday, February 22, 2026, during a military operation in the western state of Jalisco.
- Operation Details: Oseguera Cervantes was wounded during an operation to capture him in Tapalpa, Jalisco. He reportedly died from his injuries while being transported by air to Mexico City.
- Aftermath and Violence: Following his death, cartel members initiated violent reprisals, including burning vehicles and setting up roadblocks in Jalisco and neighboring states.
- Significance: "El Mencho" was the leader of the CJNG, which has grown into one of Mexico's most powerful and violent criminal organizations, responsible for trafficking large quantities of drugs, including fentanyl, to the United States.
My Comments: The situation is worse than that. NOTAMs (Notice to Airmen) have been issued over parts of Guadalajara. This means the airspace and airports in that area are closed to all flights because there is shooting and burning going on on the ground. The Guadalajara Airport has been attacked by the drug gangs and the airport at Calisco has been closed as well.
The port city of Puerto Valarta (Vayarta) has multiple fires burning (public buses and buildings set on fire) and the drug gangs have set up roadblocks and shut down highways going into the city.
Mexico is a major economy in Central and South America but sadly successive governments have never been able to overcome the drug cartels.
Not only are the drug cartels well armed with modern weapons but they have more money at their disposal than the Mexican government. And their money is in US Dollars. The billions are derived from exporting drugs to the US, Europe and elsewhere around the world.
Mexico, Venezuela, Honduras, Salvador are being overrun by the drug cartels. Often the drug cartels work hand in hand with government officials both at federal and almost always at the state levels.
In the map above the red circles represent some of the more well known drug cartels in Mexico - they are all named after their hometowns. Tijuana, Sonora, Juarez are famous drug places.
El Mencho the drug lord who was shot dead on Sunday was from Jalisco which is just below Guadalajara (circled above).
Can this happen in Malaysia? I believe it can. We are already the land of cartels.
Remember the mass graves found at Wang Kelian in Perlis? Those were the human trafficking cartels. Close one eye.
Recall the recent expose by Bloomberg about the human trafficking cartels (the foreign workers cartels) operating in Malaysia. The Bangla cartels alone are worth billions of Ringgit. Human trafficking is big business in Malaysia. Close one eye.
Of course there are the drug cartels. Drugs are now being 'seized' by the truckloads. Of course these are the ones that are seized. What about those that are not seized. Or close one eye.
Then you have the money lender cartels. Usually they are fronts for money laundering operations. Again Bloomberg had another major expose recently. Close one eye again.
If things are allowed to go on like they are, then one day we will become like Mexico. Dont say I didnt warn you. If you all are bodoh then you all are bodoh lah. What else can I say?
