The State's GDP is about RM460 billion per annum. That is about RM1.26 Billion a day of production. So you declare a public holiday and you potentially lose RM1.26 Billion worth of economic output for one day.
This is a low IQ decision by politicians to seek cheap publicity and cheap popularity. At the expense of the State's economy. Millions of Ringgit will be rugi because delivery schedules must be postponed, appointments must be cancelled, construction work will have to stop.
This type of cheap popularity seeking behaviour is aimed at the working classes. The people who earn salaries or makan gaji. Give them a free holiday and hopefully they will vote for you.
They do not have a real stake in the economy. They do not own the businesses they just work for salaries. So the more free holidays they get the more they will like it.
Why not declare the whole month a public holiday? 30 days. The working classes will love it better. Tapi gaji mesti jalan lah. Tak payah kerja tapi gaji jalan. Isnt that cool.
