AT LAST 'CRAZY' DONALD TRUMP GETS GREENLAND.

So President Trump was not just shooting off about acquiring Greenland at all. It has really happened.

Yesterday September 22, 2026, at the UN headquarters in New York, President Donald Trump, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, and Greenlandic Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen signed an agreement. It amends and supplements the existing 1951 U.S.–Denmark Greenland defense agreement.  Here is a quick video:

The new agreement has significant  'enlargements'  over previous US-Greenland defense agreements. Here are some main points:

  • Much greater U.S. military access: The U.S. can expand its military presence and operations in Greenland.

  • New U.S. defense areas: The agreement specifically provides for U.S. facilities at Narsarsuaq and Mestersvig, alongside expansion of the existing Pituffik Space Base.

  • “Golden Dome” missile defense: The agreement explicitly allows the U.S. to establish a missile-defense system in Greenland.

  • Broad military access: U.S. aircraft, ships and forces receive extensive rights to move through Greenland and its territorial waters in support of defense operations.

  • Excludes non-NATO military presence: Non-NATO states cannot establish military installations or a persistent military presence in Greenland without agreement.

  • Limits sensitive foreign investment: Investors from non-NATO/non-EU states can be restricted from controlling or significantly influencing strategically sensitive Greenlandic sectors.

  • Greenland remains Danish: The agreement explicitly reaffirms the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Denmark and Greenlanders' right to self-determination. It does not make Greenland U.S. territory.

  • Even if Greenland becomes independent: The agreement is designed to continue if Greenland later becomes independent, including provisions for continued NATO membership and U.S. defense arrangements

The deal gives the U.S. a much larger and long-term military/security role in Greenland.

Comparison with Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico is a US protectorate territory. But it is not formally recognised as a State in the USA. But Puerto Rico's 3.2 million people are automatically American citizens. But they cannot vote in the US presidential elections. If a Puerto Rican moves to any other part of the US, only then he can vote in the US presidential elections.  The U.S. federal government retains ultimate authority over Puerto Rico under the Constitution and federal law.

In comparison Greenland has a population of 57,000 people, 7.4 million Harp seals (someone counted them) and thousands of polar bears and walruses.

Just like in Puerto Rico, there is nothing to prevent the United States (say 50 years from now) from granting US citizenship to all the 57,000 Greenlanders. (That is the student population at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbour).  Or approve applications by Greenlanders to become citizens of the USA.  So imagine if all the 57,000 Greenlanders or a large number of them become US citizens,  then by default wont that make Greenland  a part of the USA?

Plus there is a long-standing and active movement for Greenlandic independence from Denmark.   Greenland already has extensive self-government. Since 2009, Greenland has its own parliament and government and controls many domestic matters.

The art of the deal.
