Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, has passed away at the age of 100. Born on July 12, 1926, in Klang, Selangor, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali became one of Malaysia’s earliest Malay women doctors and went on to have a long career in medicine, public health and social work. She studied medicine at King Edward VII College of Medicine in Singapore and graduated in 1955.
For over 52 years as the wife of a senior Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and then wife of the Prime Minister for almost 24 years Tun Siti was the exemplary wife to her husband, mother to her children, and First Lady to an entire country of over 30 million people. A remarkable woman and a human being par excellence. Not once in all those five decades or more did she lapse even in one word of speech. Or make a single faux pas. Not once.
