During that meeting with President Trump in Washington a couple of days back King Abdullah of Jordan had a serious nervous blinking fit. You can see it here:
This was after President Trump had announced that he would like Jordan to take in a million or two people from Gaza to be relocated to Jordan.
King Abdullah had been anticipating this move for sometime because soon after the Hamas attack began on Oct 7th 2023, he already said that the people of Gaza should not be relocated to other countries.
The reason the King developed that nervous twitch was because of this video here. This was a huge rally with hundreds of thousands of people in Amman, Jordan that took place in late 2023, after the Hamas attack on Israel. This rally was in support of Hamas. All the people in this rally were not only Palestinians (who live in Jordan) but they are supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood. They are most likely NOT native Jordanians. The Muslim Brotherhood is the most powerful and most organised political party in Jordan. If there were any 'revolution' or 'coup' in Jordan the Muslim Brotherhood can take over Jordan in a jiffy. But they will face stiff resistance from the native Bedouin Jordanians who still have a strong grip on the country.
Here is a more recent rally (just five days ago) also in Amman, Jordan where again the Muslim Brotherhood organised this huge rally to protest President Trump's suggestion that Jordan take in a million or two million people from Gaza.
Leading the rally was this man Murad Al Adaileh the head of the Muslim Brotherhood Party in Jordan.
Jordan has a population of about 11 million people of which over SEVEN million are Palestinian refugees (since 1948). The native Jordanians or Bedouins make up the balance FOUR million population. The Palestinians not only outnumber the Bedouins (almost 2:1) but the Palestinians dominate the economy in Jordan.
The FOUR MILLION native Bedouins however control the politics and all the levers of government and power in Jordan. Including controlling the army, police the security services and all the top government jobs in the country.
Sitting on top of this pile of camel trails is the Royal Family - who are neither Jordanian, Palestinian nor Bedouin. The "Hashemite" Kingdom of Jordan were natives of Mecca in Saudi Arabia. The patriarch Sheriff Hussein Ali of Mecca helped the British throw out the Turkish Ottomans circa 1906. After the First World War the British did a number (backstabbing) on Sheriff Hussein and wanted to make someone else the King of Arabia. Later that lot fell onto the al-Sauuuuuud family. Sheriff Hussein was packed off to Transjordan where he was appointed the King of Transjordan. That is how the 'king of Jordan' came to be - not a bumiputra of Jordan, with no kampong to return to for Hari Raya, not a native Bedouin and not a 'majority' Palestinian refugee either. (The present King's wife Queen Rania however is of Palestinian origins).
So the King of Jordan keeps the crown on his head by tiptoeing carefully between the FOUR MILLION native Bedouins (who rally around him for "protecting" them against the SEVEN MILLION Palestinians) and the Palestinians who really have no regard for the King.
That is why the King was blinking so uncontrollably at the White House.
If Trump sends another TWO MILLION Gazans into Jordan that will cause a revolt by the FOUR MILLION Bedouins, maybe a revolution by the SEVEN MILLION Palestinians or create a Civil War in Jordan that could last say 15 years or 55 years. Who knows.
