Friday Notes From The Quran (7/3/2025) - DEEN

This is very brief.

The fasting month has started. Its already been five (?) days. I hope some of you readers are reading the Surah Baqarah which I suggested a few weeks back.

Today just a quick note about the word 'DEEN'. It appears 101 times throughout the Quran. Deen refers a way of doing things, an Order, rules, regulations, a way of life, laws and many translators prefer 'religion'.

As an example in Surah 12:76 (partial) it says :

 مَا كَانَ لِيَأْخُذَ أَخَاهُ فِى دِينِ ٱلْمَلِكِ

which means 'he (Yusuf) could not take (detain) his brother according to the law of the king (deen al malik).

In 12:76 'deen' refers the laws or regulations of the king.

Of course different kings will have different laws and regulations in their domains. The trick is in making the most just and fair laws for the people.
