Yesterday was the 40th day after the end of the Israeli counter-attack against Iran (13 - 24 June 2025). The Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei made a special 8 minutes and 40 seconds appearance inside a closed door prayer meeting to commemorate Iranian Revolutionary Guards senior personnel who were killed in the 12 day conflict. It involved very few attendees. For security purposes, the Ayatollah made an unannounced appearance for 8 minutes.
This is only the second time since June 24 that Khamenei has attended any meetings above ground. For security purposes since the Israeli attack and until now Khamenei has been staying underground all the time.
One of the main reasons is because the Israelis still maintain air superiority over Iranian airspace. Israel Defense Minister Israel Katz has said that Israel will continue to maintain air superiority over Iranian airspace. The Israelis fly air patrols and reconnaisance flights over Iran including using long range drones.
Here is the latest flightradar24.com map (THIS MORNING 9 AM) showing international flights still bypassing Iran.
Iran air space is practically closed. International flights are rerouted around Iran with some flyovers over the country. And you can see there are no flights going into Teheran. This has been the situation since June 13, 2025 and continuing.
It has also come to be known that during the 12 day conflict not a single Iranian anti-aircraft missile was fired at the attacking aircraft. This was because of intense jamming and electronic warfare capability of the Israelis. One Israeli drone was shot down - it was a decoy sent to emit radar signatures and then capture Iranian anti-aircraft missile radar frequencies. The drone was sacrificed.
During their 87 hour war with Pakistan the Indians also sacrificed a similar decoy drone (most likely supplied by Israel) which was sent to capture Pakistani anti-aircraft missile radar frequencies. The data they acquire is relayed back to base or to air control where it will be used to strike the anti-air defense missiles.
Iranian airspace remains closed despite 40 days having passed after the end of direct hostilities. There is no indication from the Israelis for how long the Iranian airspace will remain closed.
