What is a megatrend?
1. A megatrend is a long-term, global change that affects many aspects of society and has a significant impact on the future. Megatrends are slow to form but can have a major impact once they are established. They can be social, economic, environmental, political, or technological in nature.
2. Megatrends are strategic forces that shape the future in a similar way to a glacier, and are difficult for humans to change. They can be measured and backed up by verifiable data, making them more reliable than other factors that affect the future.
OSTB : In my view China is a megatrend. Those who cannot see this are ostriches with their heads stuck in the sand. Economically, technologically and also environmentally China is already having a significant impact on the future of planet earth. China's impact on the world is already super huge and yet the Chinese are just making baby steps.
China is perhaps the first scientific society. Devoid of superstition and religion, which are two sides of the same coin (ignorance), 1.5 billion Chinese have latched on to simple, no nonsense scientific thinking. Hence their progress.
The extremely important question is 'How long will this new Chinese civilization last to fully impact the entire world?' If China outpaces the world for another 100 years (or even 50 years) then China will also have a political and social impact on the world.
Who would not want to be like China?
