After his meeting with Donald Trump in Anchorage, Alaska on Friday President Putin visited the graves of 14 Russian soldiers who are buried in a military cemetery there. Here is a short video. Also present was the head of the Russian Orthodox Church in Alaska.
Here is some copy paste: "While the Russian Orthodox Church is independent, it is part of the larger Eastern Orthodox communion of churches. This communion consists of various autocephalous churches, meaning they are ecclesiastically independent, each governing itself but united by shared doctrine and traditions. The Russian Orthodox Church is one of the largest Eastern Orthodox churches and is governed by its own bishops through a local synod, with no central doctrinal or governmental authority like a pope".
OSTB: This means the Vatican in Rome does not like them. A bit more copy paste:
Historically, the Vatican and the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) have had a strained relationship, marked by periods of conflict. The primary source of tension stems from the Great Schism, which formally divided Christianity into Western (Catholic) and Eastern (Orthodox) branches in 1054. Attempts at reunion, particularly at the Council of Florence in the 15th century, ultimately failed, leaving a legacy of mutual suspicion and doctrinal differences.
