SABAH STATE ELECTIONS 2025

  • Sabah State Assembly dissolved as of 6 October 2025.
  • Assembly would automatically dissolve on 11 November 2025
  • Based on first sitting on 12 November 2020.
  • Total of 73 State seats will be contested.

Here are the results of the last State elections held in 2020. (These are approximate because I believe there were some changes since then).

Party                                                                                     Seats Won
GRS coalition parties:                                                            38 total
UMNO (BN)                                                                              14
Bersatu                                                                                     11

PBS                                                                                             7
STAR                                                                                           6

WARISAN‑Plus coalition (Warisan and its allies)                32 total
Warisan                                                                                    29
UPKO                                                                                         1
Independents                                                                            3

Lets focus on UMNO, Bersatu, Warisan and PKR's performance in 2020.

  1. Bersatu contested 18 seats, won 11 seats, 61% success rate.
  2. Warisan contested 46 seats, won 23, 50% success rate.
  3. UMNO contested 31 seats, won 14, 45% success rate.
  4. PKR contested 7 seats, won 2, 28.6% success rate.

The highest success rate was Bersatu. They won 11 or 61% of the 18 seats contested. That was above a passing grade. Warisan also won 50% of seats contested.

Lost somewhere beyond the Tempat Letak Kereta was PKR which contested seven seats and won only TWO seats or 28.6%. That was a FAILING grade.

UMNO also obtained a FAILING grade of only 45%. They contested 31 seats and won only 14.

I think this time around both UMNO and PKR can save their deposits and save their campaign expenses. I think they are going to be in that lower 20% success rate category.

Observers say Warisan has declared its intention to contest all 73 seats, choosing not to form any coalitions or collaborations with other political parties. This decision underscores their commitment to presenting themselves as a unified force in Sabah politics.

Analysts have varying expectations for Warisan's performance.
Optimistic Scenario: Some analysts believe Warisan could secure up to 41 seats, potentially enabling them to form a single-party government.

Bersatu is expected to contest a substantial number of seats. The party's performance will depend on factors such as candidate appeal, campaign effectiveness, and voter sentiment leading up to the election.

This time around the big boys to look out for will be Warisan and Bersatu.
This will be the end of UMNO and PKR in Sabah. Sayonara.
